Trust (Krooz Mode)

This was actually a follow-up tune to a rapcore song I wrote called Trust, which was more about politics.  However, the political issues in that song are a little dated now, so this dance song is the one I’m posting.

Literarily speaking, the song references Homer, Shakespeare, Shaivism, and the Bible.  It’s about the unusual topic (unusual for a dance song, anyway) of moving past infidelity.

on the subject of trust

yes it’s a fine line. you wanna take your time, make it right, ’cause she’s so fine.
but, you’ve gotta watch the signs, you’re gonna fall behind.
when she goes out with her friends, that’s when the trouble begins and then nobody wins.
some man dumped them and now they’re dumping on all men,
and reeling your girl in, and where does it all end?
but, you can take it; every narrative slides.
you gotta take your time, pare it down, to break out the signs.

_let me see what i can cook up with this old school groove.
_everybody getting shook up when they start to move.
_and no, it’s not about the hook-up, so there’s nothing to prove.
_everything is gonna look up when you set the mode to cruise.

when you can’t trust the mirror for the look in your eyes
who are you and who you gonna turn to?
when you can’t trust
– your mind is telling nothing but lies
who are you and who you gonna turn to?
when you can’t trust – your heart is just a wolf in disguise
who are you and who you gonna turn to?
when you can’t trust
you better get up and get out there.

he was the man of your dreams, or so it seems
until your girls started scheming ways of making you free
they wanna take you out to the club, booze you up, talk you up,
and shake you up … and then they try to hook you up
and aphrodite’s dropping lies in your narrative flow
but it’s a life of compromise giving paris a go
that ain’t no reason to diss him, but while you’re with him
gotta listen, there’s a system to the rhythm you’ve been given now

_trust the Rhythm while you’re able, get yourself out from the table
_ride that saddle, rock the stable, girl just get out on the floor

when you can’t trust the mirror for the look in your eyes
who are you and who you gonna turn to?
when you can’t trust
– your mind is telling nothing but lies
who are you and who you gonna turn to?
when you can’t trust – your heart is just a wolf in disguise
who are you and who you gonna turn to?
when you can’t trust
you better get up and get out there.

i wanna set the record straight one time,
because i’m fully equipped: a mike, a rhythm, and a bassline.
my primary mission goal is to ease your mind,
so, calling all stations, Nataraja is my callsign.

_whence come the Rhythm when it descends upon my soul?
_a revelation i’m given: to keep it, i must let it go.
_God tuned our brain to the Bassline – in Groove we trust, we trust the Groove.
_it must be a sign to get up off your ass and make it move.

it’s imperative you listen to the narrative:
menelaos and helen, the tale that they’re telling telemachos.
in the end ain’t no chance they say where paris is;
where they’ve been in their romance, it doesn’t merit this.
you can take it; every narrative slides.
you gotta take your time, pare it down, to break out the signs.
in the beginning it was the Word and the Groove:
you gotta listen to the Rhythm of Heaven no matter where it is.

_all the world’s a dance floor,
_God’s the dj … we’re just strutting out our time upon the stage.
